There haven't been many fast, field-friendly, and noninvasive solutions for truly measuring the percentage of carbon monoxide (CO) in the blood.

Until now.

microdot® CO Breath Analyzer will give instant breath results in %COHb and PPM. Both measurements are backed up with color indicator lights for immediate visual display. A %COHb measurement of 40% is considered lethal for adults. 

More Reliable Than SpCO

 Unlike SPCO derived from pulse oximetry (using products such as some Rad-57 models), %COHb is the exact percentage of hemoglobin bound to carbon monoxide and is the gold standard of measuring carbon monoxide. Therefore, being able to measure %COHb in the field dramatically improves the accuracy of carbon monoxide detection. In the words of one study from 2023:
"Noninvasive measurement of COHb (SpCO) using current pulse CO-oximeters does not seem to be highly accurate to estimate blood COHb."

How does it work?

CO is collected from the last portion of the breath (alveolar breath).

The display will show a small countdown timer. When this reaches zero the displayed value is the final value obtained and will not increase any further.

You'll hear a beep, and it'll show the final reading of %COHb. Press a button to toggle between PPM and %COHb.

  • Power On

    Insert the mouthpiece and press the power button.

  • Hold Breath

    Countdown starts, have firefighter hold his/her breath until the countdown reaches zero.

  • Breathe Out

    Place lips around the cardboard mouthpiece and blow gently until their lungs are completely empty.
